When I imagine myself travelling in America it’s the cities I see myself exploring. Drinking cocktails at cool New York bars, watching live country music in Nashville, exploring the colourful French Quarter in New Orleans, riding the trams in San Francisco. I want to get lost on purpose in cities I’ve only ever seen in movies or on television.
I never imagined myself exploring the national parks because, apart from those months in Australia where I lived in a campervan, beaches and outback and countryside stretching out before me, I’ve never not been a city-break traveller. And when I went to America in 2013 for a work trip, it was Seattle where I travelled to. Spending days in the office and nights being shown around the city’s best bars and restaurants by my local colleagues.
I loved Seattle. I love city breaks. But after getting a taste of the other side of America, the side where sweeping landscapes and natural wonders take your breath away, I’m pretty much sold on the idea of jumping out of my comfort zone and swapping urban exploring for national parks.
What swayed me? Four new videos from Trek America, which allow you to take a trip to some of America’s most amazing national parks without even leaving your sofa. I KNOW. I took a virtual Grand Canyon tour from my desk, how cool is that?
These 360 degree videos are designed to give you a real, immersive experience. Well, as immersive as you can get without actually being there. You can also get on top of Angels Landing in Zion, travel through Monument Valley on a Navajo led jeep ride, and see some of the most incredible viewpoints at Yosemite
